Family Strife

… the oldest, and have always been a bit different from them. Because God made each of us unique, having different interests, hobbies and desires, we lack intimacy and closeness that many sisters share. Once my sisters and I began “adulting”; pushing through various work demands, divorce, the effects of the economy and parenthood, we increasingly grew apart. We rarely sit on the phone anymore to laugh and talk for hours, take sister trips to Miami or cry in each other’s arms when life gets hard…and it does. There’s something missing. This lacking creates division, anger and a pain that’s hard to put into words.  If you’ve been misunderstood by family whether its siblings or cousins who have alienated you, parents that have abandoned you leaving alone to drift and figure it out….know that God is with you. He is our father, mother, sister and cousin. He will soften hearts. He can mend relationships and restore families. Everything is done in God’s timing. Believe that He hears your prayers and will answer them. God will cover you at the cookout, during the spades game, funerals and Christmas dinners. He will protect you from disappointments and re-trauma from people that were positioned to love you but didn’t. He will heal and cover.

I’m one of three sisters…

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
— Psalms 34:18
Better one handful with tranquility than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind.
— Proverbs 17:1
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
— Joshua 1:9
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. 2 The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. 3 The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.
— Proverbs 15:1
